Volunteer Spotlight – Giving Time for a Wonderful Cause…
We are grateful to all who contribute to make this a
successful Foundation and are very proud to present our
Volunteer in the Spotlight. We are happy to spotlight a
very dedicated
member of our Event
Committee, Joe
Karcinell. He has dedicated much time and effort to the
Foundation and we would not be the Foundation we are
today without his help. We caught up with Joe this
summer and learned from him, below, about his
experiences with A Little HOPE and more.
I first learned about A Little HOPE through their former
Consultant to the Board of Directors, Danny Kahn. Danny
was my father's roommate in college, and many years
later I discovered him to be a mentor of mine. He
continues to be an extremely important, compassionate
and incredible figure in my life.
I got involved with the Foundation because I wanted to
engage with a group of professionals who were interested
in devoting time and energy to a cause that benefits
children. Furthermore, half of my immediate family was
at risk and at ground zero when the attack struck - and
although they all miraculously survived, my family and I
embrace life and feel for those who weren't as fortunate
as we are. Children are our innocence and not only do
they deserve the best support, guidance and
encouragement that they can get from their families and
society - but it is their right to be happy. I feel as
though A Little HOPE supports the pursuit of that right
- and helping kids smile makes me smile.
When I began working with A Little HOPE, I initially
pretty much shadowed Danny and did whatever was needed -
from attending Board meetings and ideating, to manning
auction stations at the events. My role has developed
into one which is of broad range and I have contributed
through my ongoing energy and ability to help "make
things happen." From traditional meeting attendance and
actually working at the event(s) to achieving corporate
sponsorships, restaurant tasting stations and many
auction/raffle items - I have been a can-do resource for
A Little HOPE.
My major accomplishments at A Little HOPE start with a
continuum of commitment to this organization and a long
tenure of keeping in touch and taking the initiative to
always check in and stay active. Through my energy put
forth, I have secured notable contributors to A Little
HOPE in the form of corporate sponsorships, tasting
stations, auction items and raffle donations over the
years from institutions including: Colgate Palmolive,
Park Firm LLC, Heartland Brewery, Gin Lane, The NFL,
Ellen Fisch Artwork and Fireman Group Restaurants, among
others. My main accomplishment has been personal however
- in feeling content and proud about the way that I am
spending my spare time. That feeling is always a rush
and most apparent during the event when Whitney & Amy
make their speeches and the video about the Foundation’s
work is shown.
On a personal note, I am 27 years old. I have a Bachelor
of Science in Applied Economics & Business Management
with a Marketing Concentration from Cornell University.
Until recently, I served as a Business Development &
Brand Strategy Lead for the creative agency, Hirst
Pacific Ltd. In August, I began working as Senior
Manager, Business Development for the New York City
office of the WPP company, Fitch.
My personal interests begin with family and friends. I
have an undying interest in the welfare of children - as
I am involved with other non-profits that help children
of different circumstances. I love to play sports
including basketball, softball, volleyball, soccer,
tennis and golf. I also love cooking, the theater,
writing songs/stories, singing, movies, music and art.
Looking back, my best memory of working with this
Foundation so far is not one - but a series of
realizations and flashes of speeches that I listened to
over the course of the last five years. When all the
memories form montages of what it has meant to be
involved for so long it all summates to make me smile at
any moment and on any day. Going forward, I plan on
doing everything from supporting the annual benefit -
via cold-calling for more corporate sponsorships,
donations, etc. - to innovating with key A Little HOPE
leaders to help this great cause grow. I hope to
eventually help as many children to have the right to
happiness as humanly possible.
Welcome to A Little HOPE!
We appreciate your support and look forward to working with you on our upcoming
event.
