Scott and Beth Kaplan
We are pleased to recognize Scott and Beth Kaplan for their passionate commitment to A little HOPE. When Scott joined the board of directors, we soon learned that we had gained two ardent supporters!!
Beth is a graduate of the University of Maryland. She attended graduate school at Adelphi University and received her Master of Science degree in Communicative Disorders. Her first position following graduation was as a pre-school teacher at the School for Language and Communication Development in Bellmore, New York. She also taught kindergarten in Bellmore for one year before she and Scott moved to New Jersey and started a family.
Beth has many interests. Currently, she is “focused on raising their four children and creating a loving environment where they can grow and succeed”.In the future, Beth is very interested in staring a private practice where she will specialize in treating children with language and communication disorders.
Scott’s main role as a board member is to fundraise and support other board members efforts in achieving the foundation's mission. He first became aware of A Little Hope when he was given literature by former board member Michael J. Sollitto, who had asked him for a donation. Scott had lost a dear friend, Dan Affilitto on September 11th and his partner, James Kruse’s wife, in 2003. Both families had two young boys at the time of the deaths. Scott viewed A Little Hope as a great opportunity for him to support a mission he believed in, “as he was witnessing the struggles of these two families, first hand”.
Scott is a graduate of Pace University. He started his career as an equity sales trader at Richard Rosenblatt and then Schroeder Wertheim, and has been with JNK Securities, Inc. from 1995 to the present. Scott is co-head of listed trading.
What has impacted Scott the most since joining the board, is “seeing the progression and achievements a team of board members can accomplish with hard work and dedication and knowing that I can truly make a difference in changing a child’s life for the better”. To further increase A Little Hope’s effectiveness Scott plans to spend more time getting involved by attending one of the bereavement camps or centers that we are partnered with.
Scott’s enjoys participating and interacting in his children’s various activities. He is also an avid sports fan – a passion which he joyfully shares with his children. Scott and Beth reside in Manalapan, New Jersey.
We are grateful to this wonderful couple for all of the time they have spent raising money and acquiring auction items for our galas. Through their efforts, A Little Hope has been able to help provide support for grieving children and teens in New Jersey and nationally!
